Contemporary Kiltmaking: What Makes A Kilt?

Edinburgh 2026

Contemporary kiltmaker Andrea Chappell explores the practice of kiltmaking, looking at traditional pleating techniques and their contemporary translations. Based in Moray in the North East of Scotland, Andrea's kilts focus on incorporating vintage fabrics and deadstock alongside classic tartans and heritage tweeds in a slow and sustainable means of making that upholds the traditional hand stitched method, now listed as an endangered craft. Andrea's kilts will be on display at the venue, the Scottish Textiles Showcase, 20 St Mary's Street.

This is an archived listing from the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Contemporary Kiltmaking: What Makes A Kilt? is by Andrea Chappell, ACME Atelier, listed under Events in the Fringe programme. It is at Scottish Textiles Showcase, 20 St Mary's Street, EH1 1SU, 17 August.
