I’m in love with a man from Dundee. Who lived 100 years before me. He was a poet. He was aware of this. I think he was brilliant. Not everyone agrees. His name? William McGonagall. His life I will now chronicle. Four-time Fringe First winner Gary McNair returns to the Shed with his critically acclaimed, five-star tribute to Scotland’s alternative bard. It’s the incredible true story of 'the world’s worst poet'. Told suitably in almost-rhyming verse. This will be a special stripped-back version of the hit Fringe show, reimagined for Shedinburgh.
This is an archived listing from the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. McGonagall's Chronicles is by Gary McNair, listed under Theatre in the Fringe programme. It plays at Shedinburgh @ Assembly Checkpoint, 2 Bristo Place, EH1 1EY, 10 August.
The show runs 55 minutes and is suitable for ages 14+. Entry is free.
